Everyone on Twitter is talking about it, but what is National School Sports Week?

The Youth Sport Trust started this annual celebration in 2008, and it has run every year since, even during lockdown (although it was repositioned as National School Sport Week at Home for this period). It is run in association with European School Sports Day.

Every year, National School Sports Week has a different focus, working to achieve something great within the world of Physical Education, Physical Activity and Sport.

This year, National School Sports Week runs from Monday 19th June to Sunday 25th June, and the focus is on ensuring children in the UK are active for the Chief Medical Officers’ recommended minimum time of 60 minutes a day. The idea is for schools, families and partner organisations to take the #PledgeToPlay; supporting the government aim that children are active within school for 30 minutes a day, and then outside of school for at least another 30 minutes.

Once pledged, access is given to a range of supporting materials and resources to help you achieve your active minutes. These resources are designed for all different age ranges and categorised based on who is accessing them.

Registrations for National School Sports Week 2021 are now open
